Most Turkish mills raise domestic scrap purchase prices

Most Turkish mills have hiked their domestic scrap purchase prices over the past two weeks, amid firm import scrap prices, lower scrap supply in the local market and the Turkish lira losing strength against the US dollar. They have increased their purchase prices by TRY 300-750/mt or $5-15/mt, while the upper end of the price range represented by Kardemir has declined by TRY 300/mt or $10/mt. Market sources report that Turkish mills are trying to buy more scrap from their local market, creating support for prices as the supply volume declines.

The general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap has declined on the upper end to TRY 12,800-14,300/mt. Due to the slight fluctuations observed in the exchange rate, the dollar-based prices have also moved down on the upper end, to $309-345/mt.
