Local Turkish scrap dollar-based prices move down

Friday, 13 August 2021 12:29:38 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Since SteelOrbis’ report published on August 8, three Turkish mills have decreased their domestic scrap purchase prices by TRY 60-170/mt or $13-25/mt, depending on grades. With the Turkish lira depreciating against the US dollar, the dollar-based prices of the other mills which kept their scrap purchase prices in the local currency stable have moved down by $4-6/mt. The current pace of scrap flow is considered good, while an Izmir-based producer has announced that it has stopped accepting local scrap supply until further notice.

Today, the general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap is still at TRY 3,670-4,430/mt, while dollar-based quotations have moved down from $435-526/mt to $430-519/mt.
