During the week ending October 9, import coking coal quotations in China have moved down amid slacker demand in the global market following big rises in the previous period, while import activity in the Chinese market may be more strictly restricted starting from October.

Quotations of premium hard coking coal from Australia are at $144/mt CFR China, down $3/mt over the past two weeks. Hard coking coal prices are at $123/mt CFR, down $2/mt in the same period.

Coke prices in Tangshan are at RMB 1,950/mt ($288/mt) ex-warehouse, moving sideways compared to the previous week, according to SteelOrbis’ data.

As of Friday, October 9, coke futures prices at Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) are at RMB 2,080.5/mt ($307/mt), increasing by RMB 112.5/mt ($16.6/mt) or 5.72 percent compared to September 30.
