In a letter to customers, Steel Dynamics Roanoke Bar Division announced it will increase merchant bar prices by $2.00 cwt. ($40/mt or $44/nt) effective with new orders as of Friday, April 7.

The company indicated the move is intended to “recover a portion of the gap created over the last six months between the rising cost of scrap and other inputs and merchant bar selling prices.”

Gerdau Long Steel North America issued a similar release to customers, but as of press time Nucor has not followed suit. Until then, the success of the price increase remains unclear.
