Nucor, Gerdau and others drop merchant bar prices

In a letter to customers, Nucor announced that effective with shipments as of August 3, the company will decrease the published prices of merchant bar and structural products by $1.25 cwt. ($25/nt or $28/mt). Nucor cited imports and “domestic competitors’ unpublished discounts” for the drop.

Gerdau Long Steel North America followed with a similar announcement, along with Steel Dynamics and CMC.
