After decreasing slightly in November, rebar prices have been stable in the Polish domestic market for the past seven days. The current levels are in the range of PLN 3,600-3,700/mt (€783-805/mt) ex-works.
Demand in the market is expected to become quieter in the coming days as the winter holidays are closer and the weather conditions are getting worse. “We've now seen our first winter weather and this can act as a trigger for the market to slow down,” a source said.
In the past few months, the construction sector has been performing well and demand has been generally sturdy, with stock levels being moderate. According to another source, the new year could start with a price increase (of approximately PLN 91/mt or € 20mt), even though the rumor has been welcomed with skepticism by market players.
“Prices are under pressure because of the offers from Russia and Moldova, and so an increase is unlikely,” the same source explained. In November, Russia and Moldova lowered their prices which now stand at €780/mt CPT and €775/mt CPT respectively, against Poland’s €790- 800/mt CPT.
