In a letter to customers, US Steel announced today a $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt) price increase for CRC, HRC and HDG, effective immediately.

Sources predicted flat steel prices would rise after September scrap prices settled, and while the announcement was earlier than expected, sources believe that with US scrap prices "all but assured" to rise next month, the flats increase will face little resistance.
