Following the rapid price increase seen in a few separate stages over the previous couple of weeks, prices for coated steel in Turkey have more or less stabilized in the past week, with just minor price changes depending on the mill and the product group.
The re-rollers are mainly offering for June and, in the meantime, the demand for coated steel has remained firm with a positive outlook for the coming period. Turkish suppliers expect new price increases due to the strong business activity and higher hot rolled coil (HRC) prices in the country. Turkish coated steel prices have increased by 10 percent since the beginning of 2021, whileHRC prices have increased by only around five percent in the same period. "We have to close our sales from time to time because of the strong demand. Local buyers are not hesitating to buy at the moment because export demand is also strong and availability of material in the spot market is low. In this situation, we believe prices will increase further for coated steel in Turkey," a re-roller told SteelOrbis.
On the export side, demand is also sufficient and is expected to remain strong, supported by the firm market in Europe. Especially after the Easter holidays, business activity is foreseen to increase just like in previous years. In addition, demand from the North African countries has been good for almost one month now and price inquiries continue to be made from these countries, sellers report.
