Prices in the Turkish coated steel market have increased by $20-60/mt since early last week and demand has remained strong. Offers are mostly for March production, but some companies have limited volumes for February too. Both buyers and sellers find current price levels and delivery terms risky but, due to strong raw material prices, sales of coated steel continue. "Buyers have accepted that we have no choice but to increase our prices because of raw material prices. Also, stock levels are at a record low in the market. On the other hand, we also find current levels risky. It is not a low possibility that we will face payment problems in future with these price levels," a producer told SteelOrbis.
On the export side, demand has remained very strong and export demand is another source of support for higher prices. "As long as we have demand from exports, prices will continue to increase and this year we have received really good demand, especially from the EU," another producer told SteelOrbis.
