Prices for coated steel in Turkey have increased by $20-30/mt over the past week, supported by firm feedstock offers and limited supply of hot rolled coils on the import side. In addition, some production cuts in the EU have resulted in better sentiment in the coated steel export segment. In the meantime, the situation in the Turkish domestic market has improved somewhat. Despite still high stocks in the market, some business was done before the price increases. Although most deals were closed at the previous price levels, sources say demand remains moderate. The only problem is the ongoing weakness of end-user demand, with no expectation of a quick recovery.
On the export side, demand has also improved, partly due to some production cuts in Italy and Belgium.
Turkish mills’ price offers for coated products for their domestic and export markets are presented in the following table.
