During the week ending November 7, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have continued to indicate a rising trend, while transaction activity in the overall market is at decent levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, raw material prices and hot rolled coil (HRC) futures prices have indicated significant increases, supporting the upward movement of domestic steel plate prices. Meanwhile, the municipal authorities in Tangshan city in China's Hebei Province have started to impose production restrictions in order to improve environmental conditions, resulting in short supply in the domestic steel plate spot market, exerting a positive impact on steel plate prices. As market participants mostly hold an optimistic view of the future prospects for the steel plate market, it is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move up further in the coming week.
