During the week ending October 14, hot rolled coil (HRC) prices in the Chinese domestic market have indicated diverse trends, while transaction activity has been at poor levels. Average HRC prices in the local Chinese market can be viewed in the SteelOrbis price reports section.

During the given week, due to the rebound seen in HRC futures prices in China, HRC prices in the Chinese spot market have also indicated a rising trend, though some traders have lowered their offer prices in order to stimulate transaction activities due to slight decreases seen in HRC futures prices today, October 14. After the National Day Holiday, thick specifications have been in short supply in the local HRC market, contributing to price rises for such specifications in the given week. On the other hand, no supply shortages have been seen for thin specifications, the prices of which have actually softened over the same period. As for the coming week, amid tightness of liquidity, it is expected that HRC prices in the Chinese domestic market will continue their fluctuating trend, with both upticks and downticks in prices likely.
