During the week ending July 13, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market mostly continued their downward trend though some slight upticks have been seen at the end of the week, while overall transaction activity in the market is still generally on the slack side. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the tables below.
The minor rebound in steel plate prices at the end of the past week has been due to a slight improvement in consumption of steel plate in the market. Commodities prices in China have indicated sharp rises since late last week due to the strong recovery seen in the Chinese stock market, and this has boosted sentiment in the local steel plate market, resulting in some improvement in transaction activity. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market may indicate slight upticks in the coming week as buyers may be more willing to conclude purchases following the recent sharp declines in prices.
