Romanian flat steel spot prices rise somewhat despite lack of trade

Over the past week, although local trade is still at weak levels, Romanian flat steel spot traders have decided to raise their offer prices. Market participants said that, even if demand gives little support, rising prices in the EU flat steel market and the rises in import prices seen in recent weeks are providing support for prices in the Romanian market. Meanwhile, the sole Romanian flat steel producer, which is expected to begin production in mid-November, has remained absent from the market.

While the sole Romanian rebar producer is still not offering to the local market, spot prices for hot rolled sheet (HRS) and cold rolled sheet (CRS) have increased by €5-10/mt and €5/mt to €730-735/mt ex-warehouse and €825-840/mt ex-warehouse, respectively.

Furthermore, in the import segment, HRC offers from Turkey have decreased this week, with FOB prices at approximately $585-590/mt and freight costs at around €25/mt, resulting in a price to Romania at around €565-570/mt CFR, down from €580-585/mt CFR in previous weeks. However, according to sources, Ukrainian suppliers have kept HRS and CRS offers stable week on week at €660-670/mt DAP and €750-760/mt DAP, respectively.
