The persistent lack of demand prevents the accumulation of very high flat steel stockpiles in Romania, which puts both the local producer and traders in a tough financial situation. For this reason, local flats prices have decreased over the past week but, while traders’ discounts have been mild, the local producer’s offers in Romania have collapsed after a long period of stability. Besides, there have been no import offers this week as stock levels are still sufficient and there is no demand for imports because of the negative sentiments in the Romanian flat steel market.
Currently, prices for domestic origin hot rolled coil in Romania have trended down by €60/mt to €630/mt ex-works. Likewise, traders' pricing for hot rolled sheets (HRS) has also decreased to €790-870/mt ex-warehouse, from €805-870/mt ex-warehouse last week.
“Demand is extremely low, but the flats steel market is responding by lowering prices in order to melt stockpiles and make way for demand.” a Romanian trader told SteelOrbis.
On the other hand, domestic prices for cold rolled coil (CRC) in Romania have dropped by €50/mt week on week to €780/mt ex-works, while achievable prices for cold rolled sheets (CRS) are presently at €905-970/mt ex-warehouse, from €945-1,070/mt ex-warehouse last week.
Furthermore, in the coated steel segment, domestic market offers for HDG and PPGI have gone down from the previous week, with HDG prices at €870/mt ex-works, down from €880/mt ex-works, and PPGI at €1,150-1200/mt ex-works, down from €1,210/mt ex-works.
