Pakistani producers of cold rolled (CR) and hot dip galvanized (HDG) coils have again adjusted their prices upwards, citing higher input costs.
On April 27, local prices of CR and HDG coils have increased by PKR 5,000/mt ($33/mt) compared to the previous offers on April 19, indicating a fourth consecutive rise within the current month. Due to the fluctuations in the Pakistani rupee-US dollar exchange rate, the dollar-based quotations have risen by $29-30/mt.
Lately, one Pakistan-based supplier of hot rolled coil (HRC), the key feedstock for production of CR and HDG, successfully booked 20,000 mt of ex-Japan HRC for June shipment to the Pakistani flat steel mill at $1,005/mt CFR Karachi. Prior to this, two other Pakistani re-rollers managed to book ex-Taiwan HRC at $955/mt CFR Karachi, as SteelOrbis reported previously.
On balance, the increase in local CRC and HDG prices in Pakistan has almost matched the rise in import HRC prices within the past month, reaching about $120-125/mt.
