Domestic flat steel prices in Italy have trended sideways during the past week. Currently, Italian producers' domestic hot rolled coil (HRC) base prices are at €530-540/mt ($610-621/mt) ex-works, while cold rolled coil (CRC) and hot dip galvanized (HDG) prices are at €610-620/mt ($702-713/mt) and €620-630/mt ($713-725/mt) ex-works, respectively.

Local flat steel prices decreased in September due to a slowdown in downstream consumption and, to a lesser extent, to the pressure of import offers from Turkey. Nonetheless, according to market sources, demand for imports is still limited since buyers prefer to turn to local producers for reasons related to better service and delivery times. As a result, no further sharp decreases in domestic prices are expected for the coming period.
