Prices in the local Italian flat steel market have increased sharply during the past week.

In the given week, Italian producers’ domestic cold rolled coil (CRC) prices have increased by €30/mt on the lower end and by €40/mt on the upper end to €650-670/mt ($683-704/mt) ex-works. In the same period, hot dip galvanized (HDG) coil prices have risen by €20/mt on the upper end and by €40/mt on the upper end to €640-670/mt ($672-704/mt) ex-works, while hot rolled coil (HRC) prices have moved up by €10/mt on the lower end and by €40/mt on the upper end to €530-570/mt ($557-599/mt) ex-works.

According to market sources, higher range prices are offered by northern Europe producers but are not finding any response from Italian customers. Italian producers are currently satisfied with their order books and are not under pressure from imports because of EU antidumping measures. Market sources agree that prices in the Italian market will maintain their strength at least until March next year.
