During the week ending January 22, average hot rolled coil (HRC) prices in the Chinese domestic market have edged up slightly, while activity in the market has been at low levels. Average HRC prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.

In the past week, HRC futures prices at Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) have rebounded, exerting a positive impact on HRC prices in the Chinese domestic market. Demand has been slack due to the approach of the Chinese New Year holiday (February 2-10), though certain traders have been seeking to build up some stocks. It is expected that HRC prices in the Chinese domestic market will mostly move sideways in the coming week.
