During the week ending August 14, average hot rolled coil (HRC) prices in the Chinese domestic market have increased slightly for thin specifications, though seeing slight declines for thick specifications, while activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average HRC prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, HRC futures prices have seen an overall rising trend, exerting a positive impact on HRC prices, while prices of thick specifications have edged down slightly following previous rises. Currently, the inventory level of HRC in spot market has been at comparatively low level, providing certain support to HRC prices. However, the demand has been slack from downstream users. It is expected that HRC prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
