During the week ending April 30, average hot rolled coil (HRC) prices in the Chinese domestic market have risen slightly, while activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average HRC prices in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, demand has been slack due to the approach of the Labor Day holiday (May 1-4), resulting in low-to-medium transaction activity. Currently, inventories in the HRC market have been relatively low, providing support for HRC prices. Meanwhile, in some regions, there have been supply shortages for some specifications, which have also bolstered HRC prices. It is thought that HRC prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways in the coming week.
