According to a source from a Brazilian exporter, slab export deals remain closed at $500/mt, FOB conditions, for the product of the basic commercial grades.

The source mentioned that it was not possible to confirm a deal heard recently at $490/mt was effectively closed.

“The view that slab prices were moving down along with international steel prices and lower steel production costs is now being questioned,” the source said, adding that slab producers and clients are reluctant to close new deals, unless a clear trend is confirmed.

In September, Companhia Siderurgica do Pecem exported 235,700 mt of slab at $391/mt, Ternium Brazil Ltd exported 174,400 mt at $399/mt and ArcelorMittal Tubarao exported 100,800 mt at $403/mt, all FOB conditions, with price deals probably closed in July.
