Ex-China steel plate offers move up ahead of the holiday

Mainstream ex-China steel plate prices have been heard at $495/mt FOB as of today, Monday, January 20, moving up by $10/mt on average week on week, rising from $485/mt FOB recorded last week. At the same time, a few deals have been done at $490/mt FOB to Southeast Asia and South Africa, supporting overall sentiments in the market.

During the given week, demand in the local plate market has been quiet as most market players have left the market for the Chinese New Year holiday.

Average Q235 20 mm steel plate spot prices in China have moved sideways week on week at RMB 3,896mt ($567.4/mt) ex-warehouse, according to SteelOrbis’ information.

As of January 20, HRC futures at the Shanghai Future Exchange are standing at RMB 3,634/mt ($516.7/mt), increasing by RMB 55/mt ($8.0/mt) or 1.54 percent since January 13.
