Mainstream ex-China steel plate offer prices from mills have been heard at $570-580/mt FOB for January shipment as of today, Monday, November 28, remaining stable compared to November 21. Reference deal prices have been at $550-560/mt FOB to South America and Southeast Asia, also moving sideways compared to last week.
During the given week, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have fluctuated within a limited range amid the fluctuating trend of HRC futures prices and prevailing cautious sentiments among market players. At the same time, demand for steel plate has been slack, which will result in slight rises in inventory levels and will negatively affect prices. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will continue to fluctuate within a limited range in the coming week.
Average Q235 20 mm steel plate spot prices in China have gained RMB 7/mt ($0.98/mt) compared to November 21, rising to RMB 3,910/mt ($546/mt) ex-warehouse, according to SteelOrbis’ information.
As of November 28, HRC futures at the Shanghai Futures Exchange are standing at RMB 3,845/mt ($537/mt), increasing by RMB 89/mt ($12.4/mt) or 2.4 percent since November 21.
