The price of CRC in the Brazilian domestic market increased by 5.2 percent in the last month, against previous expectations of up to 7 percent. According to a major trader in the southern region, the increase took into consideration not only inflation and exchange rate, but also the competition from imported products.

With the increase, the new price is BRL2,483/mt ($926/mt), FOB, full taxes except IPI, following relative stability over three months. If the coils must be split to fit smaller trucks, the price now is BRL2,546/mt ($950/mt).

In December, Brazil exported 32,500 mt of CRC at FOB $679/mt, while the county’s imports of the product reached 23,000 mt at $616/mt. The average FOB export price of CRC exported by Usiminas Cosipa in December was $702/mt and by CSN $672/mt.
