Baosteel hikes ex-factory plate prices for August

On July 1, Chinese steel giant Baosteel announced upward adjustments to its ex-factory prices for wide and heavy plate for shipment in the month of August. The details are as follows:

Prices of common carbon and low alloy wide and heavy plate have increased by RMB 200/mt ($29/mt), boiler and container steel prices are up by RMB 300/mt ($44/mt), while shipbuilding plate prices have seen a rise of RMB 150/mt ($22/mt).

As a result, the new price of 20 mm x 2,000-2,500 mm Q235A wide and heavy plate is now at RMB 3,450/mt ($505/mt). Baosteel has also announced a price discount of RMB 150/mt ($22/mt) for its main agents.

Meanwhile, the producer's July prices are still in effect for wire rod, steel pipe, and semi-finished products.

All the above prices exclude 17 percent VAT and are effective from July 1, 2009.
