On November 20, Shanghai-based Baosteel released its 2008 Q1 price list. The prices of most products saw upward adjustments compared with the 2007 Q4 levels, with an increase of RMB 300/mt ($40/mt) in the base price of hot rolled coils and of RMB 200/mt ($27/mt) in the base price of cold rolled coils. The details are as follows:
I. Semi finished steel
1. The prices of slab and billet increased RMB 200/mt ($27/mt).
2. The prices of round billet remained constant.
II. Wire rod
The prices of common wire rod increased RMB 300/mt ($40/mt).
III. Hot rolled
The prices increased RMB 300/mt ($40/mt).
IV. Hot rolled and pickled
The prices rose RMB 300/mt ($40/mt).
V. Common quality cold rolled
The prices went up by RMB 200/mt ($27/mt). There is an extra RMB 100/mt ($13/mt) increase for products of thickness < 0.5 mm.
VI. Full Hard coil
The price increased RMB 200/mt ($27/mt) based on the price list for December 2007.
VII. Hot dip galvanized
1. The prices of DC51D+Z (St01Z, St02Z, and St03Z) and DD51D+Z (St01ZR and St02ZR) increased RMB 300/mt ($40/mt).
2. Prices of other products went up RMB 400/mt ($54/mt).
3. Extras for zinc remained constant.
VIII. Aluminum-zinc
1. Q4 prices are still in effect.
2. Extras for zinc remained unchanged.
IX. Electrogalvanized and electrogalvanized fingerprint resistant coil
1. Prices of pure electrogalvanized products increased RMB 100/mt ($13/mt).
2. Q4 prices are in effect for all fingerprint resistant products.
X. Color coated
December prices remain in effect.
XI. Medium plate
1. Prices increased RMB 500/mt ($67/mt).
2. Prices of shipbuilding plate increased RMB 600/mt ($80/mt).
3. Other extras remained constant.
XII. Electrical steel
1. Prices increased RMB 250/mt ($34/mt).
2. The price of B50AH470 increased RMB 150/mt ($20/mt); that for B50AH600 went up RMB 150/mt ($20/mt); finally, the price increase for B50AH80 is RMB 50/mt ($7/mt).
XIII. Electrolytic tinning plate
Prices increased RMB 200/mt ($27/mt).
XIV. Steel pipe
1. Q4 prices are still in effect for mechanical structural pipe.
2. Q4 prices are in effect for oil pipe and boiler pipe.
3. Q4 prices are in effect for ERW welded pipe.
4. Q4 price levels remain in effect for precision pipe.
All the above prices exclude taxes (17 percent VAT) and are effective as of November 20, 2007.
