The Russian steelmaker and iron ore producer Evraz Group (Evraz) has announced that in 2009 its subsidiary West-Siberian Steel Works (ZapSib) developed and mastered the production of more than 30 new grades of steel for export, which allows the company to significantly expand its sales markets and to increase its competitiveness.

In response to demand, in 2009 ZapSib developed the technology for and mastered the production of new carbon steel grades with high strength and high resistance to corrosion, and also with improved plastic properties. In addition, the new steel grades are characterized by low content of impurities and non-ferrous metals.

ZapSib exports its products to 20 countries, including North, Central and South America, Western Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, in 2009 ZapSib also received certification for its continuously cast slabs for shipbuilding from Lloyd's Register EMEA.
