Xstrata’s coking coal output drops five percent in Q3

On October 19, Anglo-Swiss ferroalloy and coking coal producer Xstrata Plc announced that its coking coal output in Australia amounted to 1.9 million metric tons in the third quarter of 2010, five percent lower than the corresponding period of 2009. The company's semi-soft coking coal production was 1.5 million metric tons, decreasing by 11.7 percent year on year.

In the third quarter of 2010, Xstrata's average received export price for Australian coking coal stood at $230.4/mt FOB, rising from $150.9/mt in the same period of last year, while the average export price for Australian semi-soft coking coal came to $149/mt compared to $83.3/mt in the third quarter of 2009.
 
Ferrochrome, ferrovanadium and nickel production levels were 228,000 mt, 1,126 mt and 16,174 mt in the third quarter of 2010, compared with 245,000 mt, 0 mt and 13,418 mt in the same period of last year.
