Xstrata posts higher coal production results in 2009

Swiss mining group Xstrata, the world's largest coal producer for power plants, issued its 2009 production results on February 1, posting a higher coal output compared to 2008.

A company statement said that total coal production increased by 11 percent to 95.2 million mt in 2009 from 85.5 million mt in 2008.

Xstrata's Australian coking coal output decreased by seven percent year on year, from 6.9 million mt in 2008 to 6.4 million mt in 2009.

The company's semi-soft coking coal production increased by 17 percent year on year from 5.3 million in 2008 to 6.2 million mt in 2009.

Xstrata is due to issue its financial results on February 8.
