World pig iron output increases 3.18 percent in August over July

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), formerly the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), world pig iron production for the countries surveyed was 80.96 million metric tons in August, down by 0.24 percent year on year, but up 3.18 percent compared to July.
 
Meanwhile, global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in August totaled 4.23 million metric tons, decreasing by 5.08 percent compared to July and down by 19.27 percent year on year. Worldsteel data show that India is the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed, with a DRI output of 1.81 million metric tons in August, followed by Iran and Mexico, with outputs of 609,000 mt and 375,000 mt respectively.
