World pig iron production up 3.34 percent in June

According to the data released by The World Steel Association (worldsteel), formerly the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), world pig iron production for the countries surveyed was 74.19 million metric tons in June, down by 11.35 percent year on year, but up 3.34 percent compared to May. Meanwhile, global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in June totaled 4.578 million metric tons, decreasing by 10.14 percent compared to June 2008 and by 1.48 percent month on month.

Moreover, world pig iron production in the first half of the year amounted to 410.55 million metric tons, decreasing by 15.67 percent year on year, while global DRI production in the period in question decreased by 9.24 percent to 26.3 million metric tons.
