Officers of the Brazilian flat steel producer, Usiminas, have asked the workers for a new deadline to prepare a fresh proposal, involving the readjustment of salaries and other benefits for the 2024-2025 round of negotiations.
On December 10, 2024, the workers rejected the first offer of the company, returning to negotiations on January 3 and 6, without reaching an agreement.
The workers entered “state of strike”, a situation when the stoppage of operations could be declared at any moment.
A director of the workers union complained almost one month after the first meeting and the company returned without a new proposal, blaming the Chinese steel for its difficulties.
A new meeting is scheduled for January 9.
