On February 28, 2008, Hubei Province-based Wuhan Iron & Steel Corporation (WISCO) announced an overall increase in its ex-factory prices for April 2008. The details are as follows:
1. HR coils
Prices have increased RMB 300/mt ($42/mt) for common carbon, quality carbon, and low alloy; prices of wheel steel have increased RMB 400/mt ($56/mt); prices of other automobile steels have gone up RMB 500/mt ($70/mt); prices of weather-resistant steel have risen RMB 500/mt ($70/mt); finally, prices of all other hot rolled steels are up by RMB 400/mt ($56/mt). After the changes, the price of 2.75 mm Q235 HRC is at RMB 5,040/mt ($708/mt), while that of 5.5 mm Q235 HRC is at RMB 4,790/mt ($673/mt).
2. CR coils
Prices of common carbon CRC have increased RMB 600/mt ($84/mt), while the price of other CR steels have gone up by RMB 800-1,000/mt ($112-140/mt). Thus, the price of Q195 CR coil is at RMB 5,630/mt ($791/mt), while the price of 1.0 mm Q195 cold rolled sheet is now at RMB 5,630/mt ($791/mt).
3. Medium steel plate
The prices of common carbon plate, quality carbon plate, low alloy plate, shipbuilding plate, boiler plate, and container plate have increased RMB 500/mt ($70/mt), while the prices of bridge plate and mining plate have increased RMB 300/mt ($42/mt). After adjustment, the price of 14-20 mm Q235 medium plate is at RMB 5,420/mt ($761/mt).
4. HDG
Prices have increased RMB 700/mt ($98/mt). As a result, the price of 1.0 mm WLZn HDG is at RMB 5,683/mt ($798/mt).
5. Silicon steel
Prices of oriented silicon steel have increased RMB 1,500-1,700/mt ($211-239/mt), while those of non-oriented silicon steel of 500 and above have seen a rise of RMB 200/mt ($28/mt). Prices of other sub-categories have increased RMB 450/mt ($63/mt)
All the above prices exclude 17 percent VAT and are effective as of February 29, 2008.
