As recently announced by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), Hubei Province-based Chinese steelmaker Wuhan Iron and Steel Group Corporation (WISCO) has signed an investment contract with technology provider IBM.

Song Shiwei, general manager of Engineering Technology Group, a subsidiary of WISCO, and Qian Daqun, president and CEO of IBM Greater China Group, signed the contract. Accordingly, both parties will establish the ‘China Metallurgical Information Capability Innovation Center' and will adopt international management systems as well as advanced IT solutions for the benefit of WISCO. Both parties will also invest in the steel information service industry.

Mr. Song commented, "The key point of this cooperation is to develop software that caters for ferrous metallurgy, and so to create an advantage in use of information in the steel industry."
