Hubei Province-based Chinese steel producer Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd (WISCO) recently announced its success in the development of QRD (quality, reliability and durability) grain-oriented silicon steel production technology, which means that China will no longer rely on foreign technology in silicon steel production.
In the first eight months of the current year, WISCO's total production of silicon steel was up 45.6 percent year on year. Thus, the annually-adjusted production of silicon steel would exceed 400,000 mt, making the company the largest global silicon steel producer.
