Vietnamese state-owned Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has stated that in August this year it produced 3.15 million mt of coal, up 20 percent year on year.

In the first eight months of 2011, Vinacomin's total production of coal was 29 million mt, increasing by four percent year on year. In the same period, Vinacomin's domestic shipments of coal reached 18.4 million mt, rising by 20 percent year on year, while it exported 11 million mt of coal, decreasing by 11 percent year on year. The decline in the coal export volume is attributed to the strong demand from domestic power plants and paper manufacturers.
