Vietnamese steelmaker Structure Steel Engineering Co. (SSE) has announced that it plans to increase its annual wire rod and rebar output capacity by 350,000 mt to 600,000 mt by the end of the current year in order to meet anticipated increased demand from the Vietnamese market.

SSE's director of production Do Quang Vuong commented, "At present, due to the delay of many real estate projects this year, Vietnam's domestic demand for construction materials has softened. However, demand will revive next year and so we have to increase output capacity before demand increases."

SSE is currently building a continuous billet caster with a designed annual output capacity of 700,000 mt. Upon commissioning of the caster, SSE will no longer need to import steel billet from China, Malaysia and Thailand.
