Venezuela's state-owned hot briquetted iron (HBI) producer Briquetera del Orinoco plans to double output by 2017, the company said this week.

The company’s CEO, Wilfredo Villarroel, said Briquetera del Orinoco produced 240,000 mt of HBI in 2016, however, output should more than double to 522,500 mt in the ongoing year.

Despite the increase in production, the company expects to continue scheduled maintenance programs, as well as cleaning, repairing and substitution of parts and equipment as a way to “guarantee productive continuity.”

Briquetera del Orinoco said the planned capacity increase is part of Venezuela’s plan to improve its industrial activity.
