The offer of the Brazilian flat steel producer, Usiminas, to its workers in a meeting held on January 9, was not approved by the union of the category, but a strike was not immediately declared.
The negotiations started on December 10, 2024, covering the readjustment of salaries and other benefits for the 2024-2025 season with other meetings held on January 3 and 6.
The main item of the proposal is the reposition of 4.6 percent for the salaries, covering the inflation rate over the last twelve months, and a salary gain of 0.57 percent, unchanged from the proposal on January 9.
According to the workers union, SINDIPA, the main concern of the workers is the salary gain, considered irrelevant, adding that the strike could be declared at any moment.
For its turn, the direction of Usiminas claimed that the proposal is in line with the proposals offered by other steel producers in Brazil, regardless of the challenges currently faced by the sector.
