US raw steel production rises slightly week-on-week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending June 27, 2015, US domestic raw steel production was 1,733,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 73.3 percent. Production was 1,889,000 net tons in the week ending June 27, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 78.5 percent. The current week production represents an 8.3 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending June 27, 2015 is up 0.4 percent from the previous week ending June 20, 2015 when production was 1,726,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.0 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through June 27, 2015 was 43,570,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.5 percent. That is down 7.4 percent from the 47,062,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.3 percent.
