US Steel Corp. announced Tuesday that it will adjust operations and temporarily idle a portion of its Minnesota Ore Operations – Minntac plant in Mt. Iron, Minnesota, effective June 1. In a statement, the company said the action is due to current inventory levels and ongoing adjustment of its steelmaking operations throughout North America. The company will continue to operate Minntac at reduced capacity in order to meet customer demand.

According to local news, around 680 employees will be laid off. On March 12, US Steel announced a temporary idle of its other Minnesota iron ore facility, in Keewatin, which affected 412 employees.
