An explosion at US Steel's Great Lakes Works near Detroit, Michigan on Sunday killed one worker and injured two others.  An autopsy performed Monday on the victim, Antonino Palazzolo, 31, indicated the cause of death was smoke and soot inhalation.

Currently, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident, including whether the company was in compliance with MIOSHA regulations.

A spokeswoman with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the office that oversees MIOSHA, said the plant has been inspected twice in the past four years, but no citations were issued.

Although the explosion temporarily interrupted steelmaking operations, the plant resumed production by Sunday night.
