US Steel places order for new electric arc furnace

US-based integrated steel producer US Steel has made a strategic investment to build an electric arc furnace (EAF) at its Fairfield Works which is comprised of steelmaking and finishing facilities, according to German plantmaker SMS Group.

According to the statement, SMS USA has been selected as the supplier of the new 1.6 million net ton capacity EAF, including engineering and supply of the furnace, gas cleaning and material handling equipment, as well as electrics and automation. 

SMS Group said that US Steel offers a wide range of value-added steel sheet and tubular products in the automative, appliance, container, industrial machinery, construction and oil and gas industries.
