US steel exports up 7.9 percent in March

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in March 2018 increased 7.9 percent from February to total 788,212 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows an 8.4 percent decrease. In terms of value, US steel exports in March totaled $1.11 billion, compared to $1.02 billion in February and $1.11 billion in March 2017.

Steel exports to Canada in March increased 18.3 percent from the preceding month to 420,851 mt, and increased 3.8 percent from March 2017. Exports to Mexico decreased by 6.6 percent month-on-month to 268,950 mt, which is down 20.4 percent from the same month a year ago.
Other top destinations for US steel exports in March include: Italy, with 12,377 mt; China, with 7,275 mt; India, with 7,189 mt; Belgium, with 5,187 mt; and Korea, with 4,542 mt.

Major steel products exported in March include HDG, at 107,511 mt; cut-length plates, at 80,362 mt; heavy structural shapes, at 59,873 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 53,717 mt; and hot rolled bars, at 49,480 mt.
