US plates in coil imports up 8.9 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 123,055 mt in September 2018, up 8.9 percent from August and up 23.0 percent from September 2017 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $94.7 million in September 2018, compared to $92.5 million in the previous month and $70.0 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in September, with 51,212 mt, compared to 65,245 mt in August and 52,875 mt in September 2017. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in September include Turkey, with 12,734 mt; Korea, with 12,511 mt; Mexico, with 10,683 mt; Germany, with 8,468 mt; and Netherlands, with 7,941 mt.
