US plates in coil imports up 14.1 percent in March

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 95,988 mt in March 2019, up 14.1 percent from February but down 29.2 percent from March 2018 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $71.9 million in March 2018, compared to $62.9 million in the previous month and $95.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in March, with 46,868 mt, compared to 45,481 mt in February and 75,295 mt in March 2018. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in March include Germany, with 23,030 mt; Korea, with 6,658 mt; Turkey, with 4,316 mt; Mexico, with 3,881 mt; and Sweden, with 3,174 mt.
