US plates in coil imports up 11.1 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 100,042 mt in September 2017, up 11.1 percent from August and up 5.3 percent from September 2016 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $70.0 million in September 2017, compared to $63.3 million in the previous month and $55.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in September, with 52,875 mt, compared to 54,227 mt in August and 32,395 mt in September 2016. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in September include Germany, with 12,398 mt; Mexico, with 11,992 mt; Netherlands, with 9,988 mt; Japan, with 5,358 mt; and Korea, with 3,226 mt.
