US plates in coil imports down 17.2 percent in November

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 109,870 mt in November 2018, down 17.2 percent from October and down 2.8 percent from November 2017 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $85.6 million in November 2018, compared to $102.9 million in the previous month and $84.6 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in November, with 56,538 mt, compared to 56,314 mt in October and 57,217 in November 2017. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in November include Netherlands, with 14,565 mt; Mexico, with 13,381 mt; Germany, with 7,604 mt; Korea, with 6,488 mt; and Japan, with 3,256 mt.
