US iron ore production down 6.7 percent in Q3

According to the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS), US iron ore production in the third quarter of this year is estimated to be 12.9 million mt, increasing by three percent compared to the previous quarter this year and down 6.7 percent compared to the same quarter of 2011.

In the first nine months of the year, iron ore production in the US totaled 38.3 million mt, falling 4.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
